No NHS Tutoring Monday November 9

There will be no NHS tutoring Monday, November 9th due to a required NHS meeting.  Tutors will return Tuesday, November 10th.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

 

NHS Tutoring Returns November 2nd

NHS students are here to provide 3rd-12th graders free homework help. If you're interested in getting tutored:
  • You must be in 3rd through 12th grade
  • If you're under 12, your parent must remain in the library
  • You must bring the assignment and any other needed materials

Days and Times

  • Monday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk
  • Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk
  • Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk

There will be no tutoring during breaks or school closures/snow days.

Finals Exam Cram

Do you need a place to study for finals? Come to the library to study or work with a group. We will have tables set up in a quiet room for all your studying needs.
  • June 8 — 4:00-8:45 PM in the Community Room (NHS tutors available 6:00-8:00 PM) 
  • June 9 — 12:00- 8:45 PM in the Community Room

Teen Instagram Short Film Contest

Show your creative side and win a prize!  Create a short film using Instagram with the theme of "Summer Is". 

Official Contest Rules:

  • Entries must be submitted July 1, 2015- August 1, 2015.
  • One entry per person.
  • Participants must be aged 12-17.
  • Films must use the following theme: "Summer Is."
  • Films must be 15 seconds or shorter.
  • Films must be appropriate for all ages — no gore or swearing.
  • All material — including music and visuals — must be within the public domain or have copyrights held by the film director.
  • Upload films to Instagram using tags #CYS15teenshortfilm & @CantonPublicLibrary
  • Winners will be notified by August 15, 2015.
  • Prizes will be available for pick-up August 15 at the CYS final party and August 16- August 31 at the Children's reference desk.

Teens, Make A One Of A Kind Mother's Day Gift!

Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to make a Mother's Day gift that will melt mom's heart (or the heart of any other special person in your life).  Join us in the Purple Room , May 2nd from 2:00-3:00PM.  Please bring a photo your mom would love if you would like to add that special touch.  Registration is required.

Teens Vote For Your Favorite Book

Teens, It is time to vote for your favorite book.  The Michigan Library Association give the Thumbs Up! Award annually to the author who writes a book with the most teen appeal.  Teens vote to choose the winner.  Now is the time to have your say!

No Tutoring February 16-February 27

There will be no NHS tutoring February 16, 17, or 19 due to midwinter break.  Tutoring will also be canceled February 23, 24, and 26 due to the ongoing library renovations.  Tutors will return March 2nd.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

 

Midterm Study

Looking for a place to study January 19-21st?  The library is a great choice.  We will have designated study space and maybe even some snacks.  Study hall times are as follows...

Win Tickets To See Mockingjay Part 1

Want to win tickets to see Mockingjay Part 1?  Answer a few trivia questions about the book and you will have a chance at the tickets.  The trivia sheet in located just across from the Catching Fire display (next to the new books).  Winners will be contacted by phone.  The last day to enter will be Sunday, November 30th.

Tarot Card Reading 101

October 27, 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Join us for a lesson on tarot card reading with the staff from Illuminate Your Spirit. Learn how to use tarot cards and your intuition to bring you guidance for yourself and for your friends. This is a fun start to a perfect relationship with Tarot.

Topics covered will be:
  • What does it mean to be psychic, and do I need to be psychic to read the cards
  • What are the major & minor cards
  • Giving readings for yourself and friends.
You may bring your own deck.
Recommended for those 12 and up.
