Starfish Family Services: Look What I Can Do

On Monday, September 14, from 6:30-8:30 PM the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Look What I Can Do: Understanding Preschool Development. Participants will learn how to recognize the uniqueness in the way children think and view the world around them. They will also learn about a child's brain development and different strategies to support children's thinking. Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Raja Yoga Healing Meditation

Raja Yoga Meditation helps you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, your intrinsic positive qualities and your innate value. There is beauty in all of us and through meditation the inner beauty not only is revealed to the self, but also to the people around us. On Saturday, September 26 from 4:00-5:45PM, join practitioners from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University to explore these universal concepts and encourage your inner spiritual development toward a fresh perspective on values such as justice, freedom, respect and love. Sessions will be interactive and experiential, where your tools for the inward journey will be explored and shared.

High School Essay Writing Assistance

Are you laboring over your college entrance essays? How about that writing assignment for class? Come to the library and get the assistance you need. Our writing tutor is a former college business writing teacher and has experience in helping high school students with their college essays and other reports. She will be here to help you by critiquing your writing and offering suggestions for improvement at the library on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 PM, beginning on September 9. Please bring a physical printed copy of your work for critique. Students will be helped on a first come, first served basis. Time may be limited based on demand.  Sessions will take place in Group Study Room C in the East Wing of the library.

Canton TargetTesting ACT Test Prep

CantonTargetTesting, an ACT preparation nonprofit founded by high school students, is offering free ACT preparation to students.  This class is designed to raise students’ scores in the least amount of time by focusing on weaknesses, working on the application of knowledge to the ACT, and learning only the essential content.  TargetTesting further increases preparation efficiency by individualizing lessons.

The instructors are experienced on the subject of standardized testing and have all earned scores of 35 or above on the ACT. They have also spent time substituting for and observing lessons of previous TargetTesting sessions.  The experiences they have gained working with students in this capacity have prepared them to teach the class.

Registration through the Canton Public Library website is required to join the class and will be open to those student who have completed their freshman year of high school.  This class is a 10-week session which will take place on Sunday afternoons from 3:00-5:15PM.  The first session will be on June 28 and the last will be August 30. Having a library card is a requirement for registration. Please be aware that attendance is mandatory to get the most out of this class. Registration begins on June 18. Kreativity Academy

Kreativity Academy is a place where creativity is extended outside of school. Participants will do fun activities from building structures to doing hands-on art projects. This program is intended to introduce the young generation to the multifaceted approaches of creative thinking. Creativity is often only associated with the arts, but participants will see that it also expands to involve teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. This program runs as a series for children 9-12 years old. It will take place every day from Monday, August 17 - Friday, August 21 from 10:00-11:00AM.  Registration is required and begins on July 27.

Bubble Man Ron Loyd

Bubbleologist Ron Loyd has been presenting bubble programs for over 25 years to audiences from preschoolers to septuagenarians!  He makes big bubbles and little bubbles, bubbles IN bubbles and beyond.  Join us in welcoming this bubble professional on Thursday, July 30 from 10:00-11:00AM.

Starfish Family Services: Let's Be Friends

On Tuesday, August 25, from 6:30-8:30 PM the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Let's Be Friends. Participants will learn how young children's thinking and reasoning impact their social relationships. They will also identify ways to help children learn about others, environmental strategies to encourage friendships and practice interaction strategies that support social learning. Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Starfish Family Services: Preschool Social Studies

On Tuesday, July 21, from 6:30-8:30 PM the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Preschool Social Studies. Preschoolers are learning social studies everyday. In this workshop, participants will explore what social studies looks like in our classrooms and homes.  It's so much more than states and countries! Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Starfish Family Services: Babysitting Class - CANCELLED

Summer is here! Babysitting is an excellent way to spend your time and possibly make a few extra bucks in the process. On Saturday, July 11th from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM the staff from Starfish Family Services will teach young men and women from 6th-8th grade the basics of babysitting, including safety in the home and caring for infants. Participants will receive training in first aid. This is an all day event, so don't forget to bring a sack lunch. Registration begins on June 15th.

Ms Carissa ROCKS!

Hey everyone, it's Ms Carissa Knoles! Carissa has been strumming to the beat of her own guitar since the young age of 14. When a guitar playing crush said, “girls don’t really play guitar,” she went out and bought one the very next day and has been rocking happily ever after. Since graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Children and Families from the University of Michigan in May 2010, Carissa has combined her knack for music and her passion for Early Childhood into the Music with Ms. Carissa program. Carissa has written her own original songs for the imaginative minds of the young and the young at heart. Join us in welcoming Ms. Carissa on July 7 from 10:00-11:00 AM. Although Ms Carissa generally plays to the 5 and under crowd, all ages are welcome to rock out.

Tooth Fairy Program

Brushing your teeth is an important part of staying healthy, but do you REALLY know the ins and outs of dental care?  On Tuesday, July 14 from 10:00-10:45AM, join the Tooth Fairy and her friend as they share tons of FUN information about going to the dentist and taking care of your teeth.  You might even get some useful tools to help you do the job right. This program is for children aged 3 to 7 years old. Registration is required and begins on June 25. This program is brought to you by Bright Side Dental.
