Great Michigan Read 2015-2016 Kickoff

If you will be in the Lansing area on Thursday, October 8, please be sure to join us for the Great Michigan Read kick-off event (which will actually be Emily’s sixth appearance) at the Library of Michigan (702 W. Kalamazoo Street, Lansing). The 2013-14 Great Michigan Read author, Steve Luxenberg (Annie’s Ghosts), will be interviewing Emily St. John Mandel about Station Eleven, writing, and much more. The doors open at 6:00 PM.

Great Michigan Read 2015-2016

Canton Public Library in partnership with the Michigan Humanities Council is pleased to announce the 2015-2016 Great Michigan Read: STATION ELEVEN by Emily St. John Mandel.  The Great Michigan Read is presented by the Michigan Humanities Council with support from Meijer, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a host of other sponsors. 
 

Station eleven by Emily St. John Mandel — Station Eleven is the story of the Traveling Symphony, a troupe of Shakespearean actors and orchestral musicians traveling the shores of the Great Lakes in a post-apocalyptic Michigan. Striving to maintain their humanity in the altered landscape of a world where 99% of the population has been wiped out by a flu pandemic, the Traveling Symphony operates under one credo: “Survival is insufficient.”

Murder Will Out: Author Harry Dolan at Nicola's Books

On Monday, November 17th at 7:00pm  Ann Arbor author Harry Dolan will be at Nicola's Books for a reading and signing of his mystery, The Last Dead Girl, recently released in paperback.  Editor David Loogan's dark past is revealed in this prequel to 'Bad Things Happen'. David must work to clear his name when he becomes a prime suspect when a woman he has recently become involved with is murdered.

Meet Author Deborah Rodriguez

Deborah Rodriguez, author of Kabul Beauty School and the soon to be released A Cup of Friendship will give a reading at Nicola's Books (2513 Jackson Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48103) on Saturday, January 29 at 3:00PM.

Detroit Author Michael Zadoorian Visits September 22

Meet Michael Zadoorian, Detroit native and author of the highly-acclaimed novel The Leisure Seeker. Ella, in the late stages of cancer, and John, suffering from Alzheimer's, take their last road trip from the Detroit suburbs to Disneyland via Route 66, against the advice of doctors and their children. Zadoorian is also the author of The Lost Tiki Palaces of Detroit and Second Hand. Zadoorian visits the Canton Public Library on Wednesday, September 22 at 7:00PM.

Bich Minh Nguyen's Great Michigan Read Author Tour

The Michigan Humanities Council announced the details for Bich Minh Nguyen, author of Stealing Buddha's Dinner, to tour Michigan as part of the Council's 2009-2010 Great Michigan Read. The Council will bring Nguyen to five Michigan cities - Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Midland, Lansing, and Plymouth - from October 13-17, 2009. The public is invited to each event, but seating is limited. All events are free except where noted. A book signing will be provided at each location. Those interested are encouraged to contact each of the sites for more information.
